What can I expect from Premier General Health Profile?

This blood test provides you with a comprehensive check-up of your general health giving you vital information about a wide range of very important health conditions. Having a blood test today can add years of health and wellness to your life. The conditions tested for very often take many years for symptoms to develop and some do not show any symptoms at all, but if not tested for, in the meantime, untreated, damage is being done.

A full blood count tests for haemoglobin levels, red cells, white cells and platelets. This checks for anaemia and can also give early insight into a very wide range of blood diseases and health conditions that are commonly slow to become apparent from symptoms. It adds vital insight into the activity of your immune system and your clotting function.

This test will tell you if you have diabetes (HbA1c) - there are over 1 million people with diabetes who do not know they have it. Finding out will enable you to make the lifestyle changes and start treatments that will significantly lengthen your life and improve how you feel every day.

It includes a full cholesterol profile analysing over 5 parameters. Over 40% of adults have high cholesterol levels which is a very signficant risk factor for heart attacks and strokes. The only way to detect if you have high cholesterol is through a blood test. It will enable you to make the changes you need to reduce your risk of some of the most common causes of death.

Your Iron levels are checked. Iron is essential to maintain blood health.

This profile also checks your liver function. Your liver is probably the most complex and vital organs in your body. It does such a wide range of things including digesting all your food and removing toxins and poisons - like alcohol. Finding that your liver is being stressed can make a huge difference to its (and your) long term health and wellness.

Included is a kidney function test. Your kidney is also a vital organ. Checking that it is working properly is done primarily by blood tests which will give you the opportunity to get treatment early if any is needed.

It checks your bone health with calcium which is vital for bones along with many other essential bodily functions, and checks your muscle health with creatine kinase which can show if you have damaged muscles.

Lastly it checks for gout which can be altered dramatically with lifestyle and treatment and can cause a lot of misery if ignored.

This profile includes 44 health indicators and because of the full blood count, it needs a phlebotomy sample, which can be given at any one of our nationwide partner locations or from our home visting phlebotomy service.

If you wish to have all of the components of this test without the full blood count done as a finger-prick home test, please see our General Health Profile.

What gets tested?

Muscle & Bone (3 health indicators)

Your blood can give very useful indications of the health of your muscle and bones

Liver Function (8 health indicators)

The liver is responsible for many of the body's essential functions such as regulating blood sugar levels, fighting infections and detoxifying your blood. Good liver function is vital to your overall health and wellbeing.

Full Blood Count (19 health indicators)

A full blood count (FBC) is a common blood test that gives a snapshot of your general health. It measures different types of cells in your blood, such as red blood cells, which carry oxygen; white blood cells, which fight infection; and platelets, which help blood to clot. This test can help diagnose conditions like anemia, infections, and even effects of chemotherapy. It also assists doctors in monitoring overall health and the impact of ongoing treatments, ensuring that any significant changes are noted and addressed promptly.

Kidney Function (3 health indicators)

Your kidneys play a vital role in keeping your body functioning including the removal of waste products, releasing hormones to regulate blood pressure and controlling the production of red blood cells. A healthy kidney function is vital to your overall health and wellbeing.

Diabetes (1 health indicators)

Checking your levels of HbA1c is a way of confirming if you have (or are at risk of developing) diabetes. Unmanaged or undiagnosed diabetes is one of the leading causes of mortality. For anyone who already knows they have diabetes, regular HbA1c checks are essential to monitor progress.

Cholesterol (5 health indicators)

High cholesterol levels can cause your arteries to become blocked - leading to coronary heart disease, heart attack or stroke. Finding out about high levels of cholesterol can help you to make the positive lifestyle and dietary changes needed to improve your chances of a long and healthy life.

Iron Studies (4 health indicators)

Iron studies are a set of blood tests used to measure the amount of iron carried in the blood and stored in the bodies tissues. Iron deficiency can be the cause of a wide range of symptoms such as fatigue, chest pains and a shortness of breath.

Gout (1 health indicators)

Gout is a common and complex form of arthritis that can affect anyone and is caused by high levels of uric acid. Once diagnosed there are ways to manage symptoms and prevent recurrence.

How do I read my results?

Laboratory results are provided with reference ranges which are based on the normal test results of a large group of healthy people from the same age group and gender as yourself.

Sometimes, healthy people get results outside the reference range, while people with health problems can have results in the normal range. If your results fall outside the reference range, or if you have symptoms despite a normal result, you may require more testing or wish to discuss the result with your GP.

For simplicity, we provided your results graphically, so they are easy to understand. Any result flagged amber is outside of the standard range. Normal results are in green.

If you see ‘invalid result’ on any of your report pages, it’s nothing to worry about. Please call our Customer Service team on 020 7183 3718 and if required we will be able to arrange another blood test appointment free of charge or post you a home testing kit which you can post back to our laboratory
