Culture Blood Tests

The test is done to check for the presence of bacteria or other microorganisms in a sample taken from any part of the body.

During the test,  a sample will be collected from the affected area, such as the throat, skin, or wound. The sample is then sent to a laboratory, where it is placed in a special dish containing a substance that promotes the growth of bacteria. If there are any bacteria present in the sample, they will multiply and form visible colonies on the dish.

Once the colonies have grown, laboratory technicians can identify the type of bacteria by examining their appearance, characteristics, and behaviour. This information is crucial for doctors to choose the right antibiotics or other medications to treat the infection. Some bacteria may be resistant to certain antibiotics, so knowing the specific type helps avoid ineffective treatments.
