Lipase Blood Tests

The Lipase test is a blood test that measures the level of lipase, an enzyme produced by the pancreas. This test is used to help diagnose and monitor conditions that affect the pancreas, such as pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, or a blocked pancreatic duct.

When the pancreas is inflamed or damaged, it can release higher levels of lipase into the bloodstream. By measuring the amount of lipase in the blood, doctors can assess the health of the pancreas and determine if there is any dysfunction.

The Lipase test is often ordered when a person experiences symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever, which could be indicative of pancreatic issues. It can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment for pancreatic conditions and to check for any recurrence of pancreatitis.
